The Bengali Women’s Group has been serving the Rockingham Community for nearly thirty years. Its expertise on the needs of the Bengali Community is well recognised not only by the locals but also by the surrounding neighborhood where many from the Rockingham estate have been re-housed.

Bengali women come to the Centre when they need to voice concerns, understand expectations and learn how to best help themselves and their family.

BWG arrangements of English language learning proved very useful to otherwise house bound Bengali women to communicate with their children’s schools, attending Doctor’s surgeries, shopping and even enjoying English television.

The Wednesday lunch club is very well attended. It attracts others from the community who enjoy Indian food especially home made using vegetables from gardening in the allotment.

Well-being is the aim of the fitness classes and Zumba combines dance and exercise for an overall maximisation of experience.

The year 2016 will see BWG celebrating its 30th anniversary. There have been difficulties continuing the good work but the women running BWG are determined to continue serving the community in the meaningful way as it always has, with true grit. They are to be congratulated in their dedication.
